Today I saw my retinologist. That in itself is not too abnormal – I see him pretty often. After all, that’s what you do when you have proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
Except…wait…I don’t have PDR anymore!
After 6 years of being diagnosed as having PDR (the most severe, advanced, and damaging stage), today I was downgraded THREE stages to being diagnosed as having mild nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy.
This means I still run the risk of microaneurysms but the blood vessels in my retinas are stabilizing/normalizing and not growing out of control any longer. I have lost quite a bit in the way of night vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, distance vision, and some color vision, but my eyesight should not decrease any more due to retinopathy and my eyes should continue to stabilize as long as I keep my A1c in a ‘normal’ range.
